IKEA Group put Jesper Brodin in charge of the development of the Swedish furniture retailer’s product range and supply chain, after Peter Agnefjall decided to give up the position.

Brodin, a 48-year old former assistant to Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad who has worked at the maker of the Billy bookcase and Klippan sofa for 22 years, will take up the new role Sept. 1, as Bloomberg Markets reported.

At the moment, he handles IKEA's Sweden unit, as managing director, but will further move to  Leiden in the Netherlands, where Ikea has its headquarters, to take over the helm of a furniture and retail empire with 348 stores, 45 shopping centers and 140,000 employees in 28 countries.

During the period when Agnefjall was CEO, IKEA expanded in China and began plans to open stores in India. The company also developed its online offering and the strategy will continue once with Brodin being in charge.
